Hello everyone.

For those of you interested in setting up your own community group I've found a few links and organisations that can offer support.

In Northamptonshire the Northampton CVS offer a similar service to the Nottingham CVS for new groups. Check it out.
http://www.nvconline.org.uk/index.php/group-support/local-support-a-development

Online there's the Resource Centre website with lots of good tips and some examples of completed Constitutions etc for you to refer to. There are a few other websites out there but I think this one, although not very pretty, has a better collection of resources.
http://www.resourcecentre.org.uk/information

Also, a couple of websites suggested at the event for up-to-date information on funding and grants available, and tips for applying, were:

Many thanks to everyone for attending on Friday. We started lots of interesting discussions around how best to present and represent the skills and experiences gained by DAs during their time involved in DAIN. As we discussed, many of these skills can strengthen CVs and interview answers when applying for paid work, whatever the sector. DACs will be exploring this further with DAs in future one to one reviews and team meetings. We are also able to give you feedback on draft job applications and highlight ways your DAIN experiences can strengthen your applications. As discussed if you would like to discuss this with me further either individually or as part of additional workshops please get intouch and we will do all we can to help.

Nottingham DA here. Older CD burners don't have CD-RW (rewritable) capacity, but pretty much all recent ones do. The thing about not allowing the files to be added to or changed is only relevant if that would be a problem, such as if material is copyrighted or if there are similar intellectual property rules such as requiring a set of materials to be present in entirety rather than partially. On the other hand, another reason to prefer using non-rewritable CD-R CDs is that they're cheaper - altho the lower price ranges will also be lower quality and will *not* be permanently undamaged as was once believed.

I had a client on Tuesday who wanted to incorporate some pictures in a Word document. I found that Word had all its functionality grayed out apart from printing. Office 2007 had been downloaded onto the machine but no product key was entered. It was suggested that Open Office could be loaded onto the machine as it's Freeware. Are there any reasons why I couldn't do this for them? I'd be interested in views on this as I had another issue when anti-virus software wasn't working on another machine and it would be useful, not to say imperative to load something like AVG free edition.

Hi Linda

Thanks for your comment - you win the biggest bar of chocolate as the first to make a suggestion. As a Derby girl I'm aware of some of the lingo peculiar to our region, and you often don't realise it is local until you go out of town. I know we have DAs from far and wide so would be interested to hear what the rest of the team have to say about this too.

Thanks again for your comment, bw Andria

Different regions have different dialogue for example in Leicester where I live. You may be greeted with the saying ay up me duck which means hello. Ark at it! means listen to something. Does your area have a word or saying you would like to share?
