Mansfield
We are currently recruiting Digital Activists in the Mansfield!
What’s a Digital Activist and what does a DA do? A Digital Activist, or DA, is a volunteer. A DA would go to a community venue, such as a library, and run advertised drop-in sessions with another DA. We would also do community outreach sessions, which could take place at a pub or a school – anywhere people meet, and they are one-offs. A minimum of 2 hours a week is required and that can be as much as you do!
Who’s a DA? A Digital Activist is an adult aged 19 and over who is unemployed. He or she will have basic knowledge of using technology and volunteer for 2 hours a week or more, if desired. A DA will be subject to CRB check and provide support to his or her local community. Download a flyer on what we do in Nottingham.
If I want to become a DA, what do I do?You can fill out an interest survey online, you can email your local coordinator, Sofia at scrawford@wea.org.uk or call/text her on 07810 834539. There is a training course that begins on the 24th March 2011 at the Mansfield CVS, Community House, 36 Wood St, Mansfield from 2:00 to 4:30 pm for 7 weeks. Visit our blog, dainproject.com or our website, www.dainproject.org.uk for more information.
Why do become a DA? Being a DA will not affect benefit recepients and will give you valuable experience to put in your CV. We will signpost to training opportunities and our 20-hour course will prepare you to be a DA. You will give back to your community and support it to become digitally-included.
For the training course, we can reimburse travel expenses via BACS or cheque and support with childcare costs (note childcare provider must be OFSTED-registered). Once you’re a DA, we can reimburse travel expenses.
As a DA, you will have the opportunity to apply to a study trip in Europe – the last one was to Berlin. You will also have access to a laptop and dongle.
If you have any questions, please contact Sofia (see above) or fill in the form below. I hope to hear from you soon!
